Prevent Engine Damage With Expert Wet Belt Replacement

If you drive a Ford Transit, there’s a good chance your vehicle uses a wet timing belt system. Many models also contain a wet oil pump belt, both of which run inside the engine and are lubricated by engine oil. These components are essential to the health of your vehicle, and over time, they wear out.

Whether it’s the main timing belt or the oil pump belt, we’re here to help. We replace wet belts on all Transit engines, using genuine Ford parts and trained technicians.

Which Ford Transit Engines Use a Wet Belt?

The majority of Ford Transit engines, most commonly the 2.0L EcoBlue, are fitted with a wet timing belt that controls the engine’s timing, and/or a wet oil pump belt that helps maintain oil pressure

Both belts are submerged in engine oil and degrade over time, especially if oil changes are missed or the wrong oil is used.

Older Ford Transits, pre-2016, may use dry belts or timing chains instead. If you’re unsure what setup your van has, we’re happy to check and confirm.

Not Sure If You Need a Replacement?

Why Wet Belts Need Replacing

Wet belts are quieter and more efficient than traditional dry belts, but they come with a number of potential issues. If your wet belt fails, it can lead to serious internal engine damage, often resulting in the need for hefty repair bills or even requiring a full engine replacement.

If a wet belt begins to fail, you might notice:

A warning light on the dashboard

Low oil pressure

Rattling or knocking from the engine

Replacing the belt on time prevents costly repairs and keeps your vehicle safe and reliable.

When Should You Replace It?

Ford recommends replacing the wet timing belt every 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

If you’re unsure of your Transit’s history, we’ll take a look and give you an honest answer. No pressure, just straight advice on what needs doing and when.
